"Goldfish" (金魚物語) is a video installation full of surrealism, symbolism, and absurdism style. In this video, “I” (artist directed and acted by herself) made a goldfish meal and ate the goldfish in the dream. This work reveals the artist’s interpretation of the whole process of raising goldfish. The installation consists of fake fish symbols using sushi, dead fish heads, and 3D fish, contrasting the “real fish” in the video. Everything in this work related to the goldfish becomes the phoney stuff from her subjective interpretation of the goldfish’s death. Thus the artist wants to create this contradicted space to analyze her relationship with the goldfish.

Before creating this artwork, the artist bought some goldfish for sound experiments (Hi! Goldfish!). However, she did not consider raising them well, instead treating them as the ‘Guinea Pig’ in the science lab. The existence of goldfish is merely a tool for her. The more extended she spent time with the goldfish, the more guilty she could feel. As a result, they were all dead. The artist realized her motivation is not pure, merely for selfish and personal requirements. And this is also the motivation she would like to make this video installation to depict her inherent thoughts as a way of physic automatism.

Based on the limitation of the room, the artist chose a black background to make this installation, to create the atmosphere of her mind and consciousness border. One audience can sit on the chair beside the table (with a similar meal made in the video) and experience the work, connecting to the artist’s subjective mind. While watching the video, the audience can observe and link the installation part like a fish tank, cucumbers, paper pins, etc., which are the elements revealed in the video.

This video projects in the meal bowl. This is a video recording when the goldfish was alive.

This video shows on the hologram fan. This is the 3D cyberpunk style goldfish from my interpretation of the goldfish's death.
