Iris Su‘s practice begins with the metaphorical and material qualities of trash, using it as a lens to reflect on value systems within contemporary social structures.

She experiments with unconventional materials through drawing, photography, moving images, sound, interactive installations, etc.. Su sees her somewhat chaotic aesthetic assemblages as a tool to interrogate the interconnectedness between individuals and systems nowadays. She amplifies the feeling of being “in-between”, in which the layers - formed by the different mediums - create a sense of obscurity. In the context of “de-trashification”, her images are intertwined with decomposing old bodies and creating new forms. The changes in perspective give them a new interpretation in this case. Su believes that such a strategy can allow an artist to explore the limits of one’s own political, social, and personal freedom beyond the constraints of ideology.

Iris Su graduated from Slade School of Fine Art for Master of Fine Art programme (Distinction) recently. She also graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (Hon.) in Visual Arts (First Class Honour) from the Academy of Visual Arts, Hong Kong Baptist University in 2023.

蘇嘉怡的藝術實踐主要將垃圾的隱喻性與物質性作為根據出發，以尋找人類現有系統之下的另類價值。蘇從大腦記憶機制與潛意識相關的心理學理論得到靈感，結合她在不同社會與政體結構的個人經歷，在繪畫，攝影，動態影像，聲音，互動裝置等媒介與非常規材料結合起來進行實驗。蘇視她有些混亂的美學組合進行一種工具來審視當今社會之下個人與系統之間的關聯性。蘇嘗試放大“介於中間”的這種感覺：在不同媒介下的一層層翻譯所形成的圖層產生了一種朦朧感。在去垃圾化的脈絡下，蘇的影像在分解舊體與創造新體的過程中交織，視角的變換讓其本身被賦予了新的詮釋。蘇相信這樣的思考與方法論可以讓藝術家在意識形態的限制之外探索自己政治、社會和個人自由的界線。

蘇嘉怡最近於倫敦大學學院斯萊德美術學院畢業並獲藝術碩士學位（一等）；2023年於香港浸會大學視覺藝術院畢業並獲視覺藝術文學士（榮譽）。
